The Best Ways To Food Sensitivity Test

by Nutrition

There are two primary options for food sensitivity testing that I provide in my practice. Learn about them and determine which is best for you.

Food allergy versus food sensitivity

It is important to understand the difference between a food allergy and a food sensitivity.

A food allergy is an IgE immediate immune system response that causes hives, shortness of breath, upset stomach, and in some cases anaphylaxis. According to Food Allergy Research and Education, only 4% of the United States population has a food allergy.

A food sensitivity, on the other hand, is much more common than a food allergy. An estimated 70-80% of the US population has food sensitivities. Food sensitivities can be challenging to identify because symptoms are delayed from 30 minutes to 72 hours. Due to this delay, it is very hard to isolate and identify the food that is causing inflammatory symptoms.

Symptoms of a food sensitivity

• Difficulty losing weight
• Digestive disorders
• Migraines
• Obesity
• Chronic fatigue
• Aching joints
• Skin disorders
• Behavioral issues

I offer two options to help determine food sensitivities an ALCAT test and an Elimination Program.

The ALCAT test

The ALCAT Test is a blood test that measures cellular reactions to over 450 substances. It is the most comprehensive and effective food sensitivity test that I have worked with. It clinically shows which substances cause an inflammatory response in your body. You can read about how the ALCAT test works here. The Alcat Test is considered the “gold standard” laboratory method for the identification of food sensitivities. Over the past handful of years, I have had great success with clients using the ALCAT test. It is the only food sensitivity test that I recommend.

The ALCAT test is perfect if you travel often, are on the go for work, or have limited time to prepare your meals. You can take the user-friendly report with you on the road, to restaurants, and grocery stores. You will navigate around the results of acceptable, mild, moderate, and severe foods for 9 months to one year. Learn more here.

Food Sensitivity Elimination Protocol

The Food Sensitivity Elimination Protocol is a guided program that supports digestive health and helps to identify hidden food sensitivities. Throughout the program, we will work together and I will support you in the process of removing the most common inflammatory foods. It is a structured system with menu planning options, recipes, and a clear layout that you will follow. After you have removed the inflammatory foods for a duration of time you will reintroduce each category individually and monitor your reactions. This provides you with an idea of what foods are triggering inflammatory symptoms in your body.

An elimination diet is perfect if you already prepare your meals or your goal is to cook more often. You will learn new recipes, try new foods, and cook in different ways.
